(4th year BSc Industrial Design Engineering)

The topic ‘circular economy’ fascinates me and leaves me with the question: why not? I believe that we, as future designers and scientists, could really make a change in the behaviour of people all around the world. To me, it all comes down to awareness as the first step towards a circular economy.
Esmeralda van den Berg
(Finished BSc Industrial Design Engineering)
Circular economy is a topic I did not encounter during the bachelor of Industrial Design, but is nonetheless a very interesting concept that every student at the TU Delft should know about. If we want to achieve a sustainable world, applying a circular economic system instead of a linear one, is key. Through participation in Circular Delft I want to learn more about circular economy and create more awareness about it.

(2nd year, MSc Sustainable Energy Technologies)

Can we imagine a zero waste future? Circularity is embedded in nature everywhere. That's how nature efficiently saves, utilizes and passes on the resources. I believe that the world needs to move on from a linear design to a new generation of efficient design for products and processes with circularity as we move towards increasing population and resource crunch future.

Circular Economy is not just about design changes and new material compositions. It also encompasses a collaborative effort of all stakeholders. Creating new business models, forging innovative supply chains and executing sustainable economic policies play a vital role to make the concept of CE a reality. With my experience in mining sector, knowledge of logistics systems and tenure as volunteer researcher for SMO Promovendi, I strongly believe that the only way forward is to adapt to CE. the first step is to create awareness, in which Circular Delft aims to play a vital role.
Dheebak OB
(1st year, Msc Strategic Product Design)
Circular economy is for me a means to an end for achieving a more sustainable future. Circularity is unique as it enables people to rethink the system and at the end create more value out of the system for everyone involved. I believe, enabling people to think circular (than linear) is the first step in achieving a widespread adoption of circular economy.
